Package of cocaine in the White House
The Republican chairman of the House of Representatives monitoring committee, James Comer, asked the secret services to update Congress on the investigation into the cocaine found inside the White House last Sunday. In a letter sent to the director of the secret services, Kimberly Cheatle, the congressman from Kentucky asked to organize a briefing with the staff of the commission by the end of next week, to provide Congress with "more details" on the matter. "This is an alarming development, which requires an evaluation of the security procedures applied inside the White House, the apparent failure of which has led to the discovery of illegal substances", reads the letter, in which Comer states that the presence of drugs in the seat of the US presidency is "unacceptable".
The cocaine was found Sunday evening, prompting a brief evacuation at a time when President Joe Biden and his family were not inside the facility. The substance was found in the West Wing: according to some sources, the package was found in a storage compartment near the entrance on West Executive Avenue, an area also used to park the cars of members of the executive office of the president and the vice president, although it is still very busy due to the important presence of tourists, visitors and military personnel. The secret services expect to conclude the investigation by next Monday.
