Pentagon, implementation of "Brandon Law" to reduce suicides among US military
WASHINGTON - The US Department of Defense is determined to quickly implement the Brandon Act a bill, which bears the name of the son of Patrick Caserta, a former Navy recruiter, who committed suicide in 2018 at just 21 years old -, and aims to improve the mental health assessment process for the U.S. military.
This while suicide deaths have risen in the last five years among American troops and especially among the elite ones of the US Army Special Operations Command, called USASOC, so the command is making changes to better support soldiers and their families . The law requires the provision of mental health services for U.S. troops seeking help amid a growing number of suicides among active duty forces. The Brandon Act requires the US military to provide a mental health evaluation if a service member reports a problem or seeks help.
