Jack Douglas Teixeira, 21, suspected of disclosing confidential Pentagon documents, could be sentenced to dozens of years in prison. The New York Times writes it, the same newspaper that first spread the news of the escape. Teixeira could be charged by the US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, with violating the so-called Espionage Act - Section 793 of Title 18 of the United States Code - "Collection, transfer, or loss of defense information with intent or with sufficient reasons to believe they could be used to harm the United States or to benefit a foreign country.” The paragraph carries prison terms of up to 10 years, and The New York Times believes Teixeira could face separate charges in relation to each of the leaked classified documents. Teixeira, a member of the United States Air National Guard, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of posting the leaked confidential documents on social media after he allegedly shared them on the online platform Discord in a group called Thug Shaker Central.
