Trump speaks of "globalists" and "Deep States" who want World War III

Sensational statements by former President Trump on the war in Ukraine. “The Donald” claimed that globalists and corrupt deep state caused the crisis in Ukraine and wants to lead the world into WW3, but that if elected he will end the fighting and cleanse America of traitors and restore peace .

The annual conference of American conservatives (“Conservative Political Action Conference” or CPAC) was the first important political appointment over the weekend to test the ground in the Republican house less than a year from the start of the primaries for the 2024 presidential elections. Former President Donald Trump is the clear favorite for now, and his speech at the closing event in Maryland largely confirmed the winning strategy already employed in 2016. Populism and anti-communism remain central to a electoral campaign that benefits primarily from the anti-social and warmongering policies of the Democratic administration of Joe Biden.

In a speech that lasted just under two hours, the former president re-proposed the topic he had focused on in his public outings in recent weeks, namely the war in Ukraine and the risk of a direct armed confrontation between Russia and BORN. Trump denounced the "warmongers" who occupy the positions of power in Washington, re-launching himself as the only American leader capable of guaranteeing peace in Ukraine and avoiding - "very easily" - the Third World War.

The apparent appeal to pacifism of his most recent speeches hides a different reality which had somehow already emerged in the early stages of his presidency. First, Trump is simultaneously proposing a diplomatic way out of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and a stiffening of US positions vis-à-vis China. Ultimately, the identification of the Chinese threat to American global supremacy, in addition to being fully shared by the Biden administration, also risks leading to a ruinous war in the near future. The foreign policy differences between the current occupant of the White House and his predecessor are therefore mainly of a tactical nature.

On the other hand, the idea of the US revival summarized in the slogan "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) is based, even if not only, on a further boost to military spending, so as to restore the authority of the United States over international scale. This Trumpian intention is both illusory and dangerous, but it represents an almost obligatory path to intercept both the isolationist/ultra-nationalist demands of the Republican Party and the support of that sector of the American power apparatus that Trump cares most about, i.e. the military leaders.
