Ukraine calls for Russia's exclusion from UN Security Council

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kulba has called for Russia's expulsion from the UN Security Council. In a post published on US website The Hill yesterday, Kulba said: "Russia not only violated the peace, but destroyed it." The rule of law should replace the principle of the "rule of power". To achieve this goal, the countries of the world agreed to give five powerful countries a special responsibility for supporting world peace and security. Those five countries included the US, the former Soviet Union, Britain, France and China, he said. "By waging war on Ukraine, one of the five main members of the Security Council, Russia, broke the rules. Instead of maintaining international peace, this country challenged the world," the Ukrainian foreign minister claimed.

"Today, Russia is neither a guarantor nor a solution to any problems in the world. Russia's war must end with President Vladimir Putin's clear defeat," he added. It is a fundamental overhaul in the global security system, as well as reform in international bodies that have a duty to support and restore peace. Russia has never legally obtained a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and must give up its seat, Kulba further claimed. Russia began its military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, after Kiev failed to implement the provisions of the Minsk agreements and Moscow recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
