Plan of the Zionist regime to "take over" the al-Aqsa mosque
The head of a Palestinian non-governmental organization has warned of Israel's plans to proceed with its Judaization plans in the occupied Old City of al-Quds and its attempts to take over the sacred al-Aqsa mosque complex. Nasser al-Hadmi, head of the al-Quds Commission against Judaization, in a statement on Saturday highlighted the recurring desecration of the holy site by Israeli military forces and extremist Jewish settlers, as well as the regime's plans to demolish the mosque. He stressed that Israel forbids renovation and restoration work in the holy place and is ready to take control of it. For his part, Palestinian lawmaker Basem al-Za'arir has called for a mass mobilization of Palestinians and a stronger presence in the courtyards of the al-Aqsa mosque to protect it from Israeli incursions and violations.
The remarks came the same day that Israeli forces stormed the Bab al-Rahma (The Gate of Mercy) prayer space and the al-Qibli prayer hall, defiantly desecrating both areas. The al-Aqsa Mosque complex sits just above the Western Wall plaza and houses both the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque. According to an agreement signed between the occupying Israeli regime and the Jordanian government following Israel's illegal seizure of East al-Quds in 1967, non-Muslim worship in the al-Aqsa mosque compound is prohibited. Many of Israel's Knesset members are right-wing extremists who advocate demolishing the Islamic holy site to build a Jewish temple instead.
Earlier, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry warned of Israel's plan to take over Palestinian archaeological sites, calling on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to shoulder its responsibilities and address the plan. . The ministry, in a statement, condemned the July 13 raid at the end of the archaeological village of Sebastia, located about 12 kilometers (7.4 miles) northwest of the city of Nablus. He also warned that Israeli settler and military militia groups are planning to take control of the Roman-era archaeological site. "This is an attack as part of a plan to take over Palestinian archaeological sites throughout the West Bank and to impose Israeli control over and annex them," he added.
