PNA: the only path to an independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital
In response to statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that Israel should hinder Palestinian aspirations for an independent state, the official spokesman of the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, stated that the establishment of such a state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only solution to achieve security and stability.
“The Palestinian state exists and is recognized by over 140 countries, and it only needs to end the occupation to put its independence into practice,” Abu Rudeineh said in a statement.
“The occupation is dreaming if it thinks it can perpetuate this occupation by continuing the aggression against the Palestinian people, escalating the policy of killings, colonization, land theft and other aggressive actions that violate international legitimacy resolutions, including resolution 2334,” he added.
"Netanyahu's statements show the world Israel's true intentions, which reject legitimacy and international law, and that there is no Israeli partner who wishes to achieve peace based on international legitimacy," the presidential spokesman said.
Abu Rudeineh added that the State of Palestine is an observer member of the United Nations and many international organizations, and has received international recognition. He called on the international community, in particular the US administration, to intervene and demand against Israel for its actions and words that contravene international legitimacy, and to force it to comply with the UN resolutions related to the Palestinian question on the establishment of the independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, so that the region can enjoy stability and peace.
