Protesters Swarm Belgrade, Demanding Annulment of Controversial Elections
Thousands gathered in Belgrade's center on Sunday to protest against the parliamentary and local elections held a week ago, which international observers deemed unfair. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) secured 46.72% of the votes in the snap parliamentary elections, but international monitors identified issues such as media bias, President Aleksandar Vučić's improper influence, and voting irregularities. A clash with police ensued as some protesters attempted to break into the Belgrade town hall, resulting in the use of pepper spray. The opposition Serbia Against Violence coalition, which came second in the elections, actively participated in the demonstration. President Vučić insisted the elections were fair, while tensions remained high during the protest.
