Ankara took a surprise step after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Egypt and showed a "red card" to the Brotherhood's Deputy General Guide, Mahmud Hüseyin, who resides in Istanbul. According to sources close to the Brotherhood, Turkey withdrew the citizenship of the Brotherhood's Deputy General Guide, Mahmud Hussein, at a time when it did not officially approve the issue. The statements of Al-Ain News sources were also confirmed by Amr Abdel Hadi, an Egyptian Brotherhood member residing in Istanbul. Amr Abdel Hadi confirmed that Turkey's Deputy General Guide Mahmoud Hussein has withdrawn his citizenship. The decision to strip the Brotherhood's Deputy General Guide Mahmud Hussein of citizenship created fear among the Brotherhood's elements in Turkey, with the fear that their citizenship would be withdrawn and he would be handed over to the Egyptian authorities.
