Russia is open to restoring political dialogue with the US, but with one condition

Russia is open to resuming political dialogue with the United States, but with conditions. Russia is open to resuming political dialogue with the United States, but Washington must take the first step, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with TASS, noting that the agreements must be such that they cannot be violated.

"The agreements must eliminate the root causes of the conflict, and they must enshrine the mechanism of inviolability," he said. The deployment of Russian military bases in Syria is provided for by existing intergovernmental agreements concluded in accordance with international law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Lavrov, each of the aforementioned agreements defines the conditions for the operation of these facilities and contains certain obligations of both parties.

"Syria is a sovereign country that has the right to conclude and terminate agreements with foreign partners. Over the decades of the existence of the modern Syrian state, numerous agreements have been signed. At the same time, we do not know about the work of its new authorities to inventory and review such acts. The Russian side has not received any applications in this regard. And this is logical:

"A 'transition period' has been declared in Syria until March 1, 2025, and the current government has the status of an interim one, which places constitutional and institutional restrictions on its policy," Lavrov said.
