Russia, Medvedev: "We are on the brink of a new world war"
This is the warning launched by the deputy president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, speaking during a conference in Moscow, arguing that there is a risk of a more extensive military confrontation.
Russia, due to US actions, may withdraw from the moratorium on the deployment of intermediate and short-range ground-based missiles, the director of the ministry's Department of Non-Proliferation and Arms Control said in an interview with Russian media. of Russian Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yermakov.
"As for US-made missile weapons potentially capable of appearing in the Asia-Pacific region, including the territory of Japan, their speed characteristics are far from the only criterion by which we will evaluate such deployments. The range of missile systems is no less important," he said.
“In particular, Russia's readiness to continue to adhere to a unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range land-based missiles in some regions will fundamentally depend on the specific parameters of their range. But even now we can confidently state that destabilizing military programs of the United States and its allies make our moratorium increasingly fragile, both in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe," the diplomat added.
A dozen Russian fighter jets from the Baltic Fleet took part in an exercise in which an attempt by enemy aircraft to attack the Russian Federation was simulated. The Sukhoi Su-27 jets took off to shoot down the aircraft which, according to the exercise plans, intended to hit "strategically important military structures" with missiles and bombs. Enemy targets were virtually "destroyed in air battle". This was communicated by the press office of the fleet.
