Russia to sue German company over Turkish nuclear power plant

The Rosatom state corporation will go to court and file claims over equipment that Siemens failed to deliver to Russian nuclear workers at construction sites abroad, the corporation's director general, Alexei Likhachev, said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

"The equipment for which an advance payment was made has not been delivered. This has led to additional costs, both for the purchase of the equipment and for adjusting the timing of its installation. We intend to file a lawsuit on this issue," Likhachev said when asked about the refund of funds for undelivered equipment, Regnum reports.

It is noted that Siemens violated its contractual obligations to supply equipment to the Turkish Akkuyu nuclear power plant, and negotiations with the company were unsuccessful. Ultimately, all the necessary components were purchased from countries friendly to the Russian Federation.

Siemens has suspended its operations in Russia since March 2022, following the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. In May of the same year, the concern announced its decision to cease all industrial activities in Russia.

In December 2023, Siemens Mobility, Volkswagen Bank and a number of other German companies that had left Russia appealed to the German government to compensate them for losses caused by the loss of the Russian market. They referred to the protection of investments by the state in the form of guarantees.
