Russian Nuclear Submarine Now Equipped With Hypersonic Missiles
The director of Russia's largest shipbuilding company announced that the process of arming the country's new atomic submarines with hypersonic missiles is underway. Quoted by Reuters news agency, Monday (14/8/2023) USC Director reported, Russia is currently equipping its nuclear submarines with Zircon hypersonic missiles. He said, "Right now the work of arming Russia's nuclear submarines, with hypersonic missiles, is being carried out." The USC Director added, "Yasen-M class atomic submarines, will regularly be equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles." Yasen-M class nuclear submarines are submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles, and are used as a replacement for the Soviet era attack submarines. While the Zircon hypersonic missile, has a range of 900 kilometers, and can move several times the speed of sound making it difficult to intercept. (HS)
