Russia's reaction to violation of international law in attacks on Yemen
Russia's Foreign Minister said the US and Britain violated all international laws in attacking Yemen.
Sergei Lavrova said that the United States, together with its allies, trampled all the norms of international law. His words at the final annual press conference were reported by RIA Novosti. “Of course, the United States, together with the British, violated and simply trampled on all conceivable norms of international law, including the Security Council resolution, which only called for the protection of commercial shipping,” the diplomat said. Lavrov stressed that no one authorized the United States and its allies to bomb Yemen. In his opinion, the US excuses on this issue are pathetic. The minister called the actions against Yemen “lawlessness.” He also compared them to the attacks of Western countries on Libya, which, in his words, “has been turned into a black hole.” On the night of January 12, the United States and Britain attacked more than 60 targets at 16 targets of the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen. Explosions occurred in several large cities, and Sana'a airport was subjected to massive bombing. US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the operation a response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. On January 19, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced the start of an operation to protect the Red Sea from attacks by the Houthis on civilian ships carrying cargo from trading companies. It was called “Guardian of Prosperity”.
