Saudi government: Jamal was asphyxiated and his body was wrapped in a rug
New thesis on Khashoggi's death is given by a member of the Saudi government who requests anonymity Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was reportedly strangled to death and his body wrapped in a rug, so he could be removed from the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, Turkey. The announcement was made by a member of the Saudi government, says the Daily Mail.
This same source adds that one of the 15 men who were chosen to confront the journalist, on October 2, wore Khashoggi's clothes, after his death, and left the building so that the authorities would believe that it was him.
These new allegations, made on condition of anonymity, contradict previous explanations provided by Saudi Arabia and which have created some skepticism internationally. According to this new version, Jamal Khashoggi was threatened that he would be drugged and kidnapped. The journalist would have shown resistance and ended up being asphyxiated to death.
Khashoggi was a columnist for the Washington Post and an outspoken critic of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The journalist disappeared at the beginning of October after going to the consulate to obtain documents to get married. Saudi Arabia had already acknowledged that the journalist was killed at its consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, but claimed it was an accident following a fight.
