Sudan has confirmed its willingness to build a Russian naval base in the Red Sea
Sudan is not abandoning its commitment to build a Russian naval base in the Red Sea. The project will be implemented after clarification of some procedural issues.
Sudanese Ambassador to Russia Mohamed Siraj told RIA Novosti about it.
He also noted that the Sudan National Regular Army took the initiative in the military operations against the Rapid Reaction Forces. "If at the beginning of the war, the National Army was defending itself, now it is the opposite: it is attacking and has a clear plan to eradicate the militias," he stated.
Since April 15, 2023, bloody fighting has been going on in Sudan between the Rapid Reaction Force and the regular army. The parties report conflicting information about the course of hostilities.
The International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent has stated that the ongoing fighting in the country could lead to the outbreak of epidemics and the collapse of the health system.
According to the United Nations, more than 8.2 million Sudanese have fled their homes due to the fighting, and about 1.7 million have taken refuge in neighboring countries. The Minister of Health of the country stated that as a result of the clashes, around 13 thousand people were killed and more than 30 thousand were injured within a year.
