The computer systems of a number of US medical centers have been disrupted due to cyberattacks. The Associated Press reported Friday (4/8/2023), cyberattacks forced several emergency rooms to close, even cutting off the ambulance link with their center for several minutes. One of the medical centers that was hit by cyber attacks was Prospect Holdings in Connecticut. "Upon learning of this, we took our systems offline for protection and began an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts," the US hospital official said.

In Connecticut, emergency units at Manchester Memorial and Rockville General Hospital were closed and patients were transferred to other nearby medical facilities. According to the results of a Pew Research Center survey published in June last year, 71 percent of Americans consider cyber attacks from other countries to be a major threat. They see this problem as more dangerous than the influence and power of Russia and China in the world.(PH)
