The court prevents the Kenyan police from being sent to Haiti
The high court in Kenya has announced that the plan of the government in the East African country to send the police to Haiti to lead the peacekeeping force of the United Nations is against the constitution.
Kenya had agreed to send a thousand policemen to Haiti to help restore security and fight armed groups. Last November (2023), the Kenyan Parliament approved the deployment of one thousand police officers to the country of Haiti, which was plunged into chaos and violence by armed gangs. This court decision comes at a time when the Haitian government is calling on the international community to send its forces to help its officers who have been overrun by gangs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti, Jean Victor Geneus, has requested the sending of an international force to the country facing the conflict and told the UN Security Council that the gang violence in the country is brutal. Kenyan President William Ruto signing the 2023 finance bill At the same time, the Court of Appeal in Kenya has decided that the taxation scheme implemented by President William Ruto's government to build affordable housing is illegal. The government had asked the court to allow it to continue charging the tax from the monthly income of employed citizens while awaiting the hearing of the appeal against the plan of the Ruto administration. In June last year (2023), President William Ruto signed the 2023 financial law, which is opposed and complained about by some citizens and the opposition led by Raila Odinga.
