The Democratic Republic of Congo will warn about the increase in MPOX
The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has said that the nation is facing a "rapid increase" in the number of monkey fever patients. Government spokesman Patrick Muyaya has said that the number of people suspected of contracting the flu has reached 11,166 people, including 450 deaths.
The DRC government official said, the report of the Ministry of Health has revealed a large increase in the number of infection cases, while the western region of Equateur is the most affected. In addition, the report said that the government is taking measures to deal with the disease, especially in medical care, monitoring of relevant health areas and increasing monitoring among the community.
This comes a few days after the World Health Organization warned about the threat to global health posed by the disease "Mpox" amid concerns about the possibility of an outbreak of a new type of the most dangerous virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It should be noted that in 2022, after a series of consultations with international experts, the World Health Organization (WHO) finally started using the name MPOX instead of Monkeypox or Smallpox and Monkey Fever with the explanation that it was causing several things including stigma .
MPOX was first discovered in humans in neighboring DR Congo in 1970, according to the WHO. According to the World Health Organization, since the beginning of May 2022, cases of MPOX disease have been reported in countries where the disease is not common and continues to spread in several countries.
The first major outbreak of human-to-human transmission, which was in 2017 in Nigeria, resulted in more than 200 confirmed cases.
