The economic crisis in Cuba breaks into parliament

Three days of intense debates in the Cuban parliament come to an end today in Havana in which crucial issues are addressed such as the crisis in agricultural production and the fight against frequent blackouts on the island, which is going through its worst economic crisis since the 1990s. The ordinary session (the first of the tenth legislature after the elections) is chaired by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The lack of food has taken up part of the work, at a time when the population regularly complains about the lack of food and the high prices of consumer goods. The national energy system is another of the most discussed topics. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and the State Electricity Union (UNE) have made "progress in terms of solutions", it was underlined, although "it is not yet sufficient". According to the government, there was a 35% decrease in power outages in May compared to the same period a year earlier.
