The head of the House of Commons (lower house) defense committee of the British Parliament has resigned due to pressure placed on him over his support for the Taliban. According to AAA, Tobias Ellwood published a video three months ago on the social network X in which he stated: “The people of Afghanistan, tired of war, have now surrendered to the Taliban state in exchange for establishing stability in this country.” However, these words caused widespread reaction among Afghans, journalists, political activists, European and British politicians.

Sky News TV channel wrote that 4 members of the British Defense Committee, having made an unprecedented decision, launched a plan about his incompetence. The head of the British House of Commons Defense Committee on Wednesday announced in a post on social media X that he has decided to resign and is proud of his activities and efforts during his time leading the British Defense Committee. Two days later, Ellwood deleted the post and said: “I will say quite clearly that the last few days have probably been my worst days as an MP.” Stating that the Taliban had managed to restore order in Afghanistan, Ellwood demanded the opening of a British embassy in Kabul.
