The Italian-Swiss entrepreneur on the list of US sanctions
The Italian-Swiss entrepreneur Walter Moretti is also on the list of people affected by the new US sanctions. Two companies based in Uster in the canton of Zurich and in Zug are involved. The businessman with dual Italian and Swiss nationality is accused by Washington, along with his network of partners and companies, of having procured equipment for Russian nuclear weapons laboratories and of having supplied Western technologies and equipment to the intelligence services and to the Moscow army.
Moretti was sanctioned "for acting or purporting to act on behalf, directly or indirectly, of the government of the Russian Federation," reads the US Treasury Department document. The document explains how "the German citizen Markus Gerhard Mueller, the Swiss citizens Ronald Eric Cosman and Bruno Koller, as well as the Swiss-based company Swisstec (more precisely in Uster, in the canton of Zurich, ed.) assisted Moretti in the procurement of sensitive Western technologies and equipment for the Russian intelligence services and the Russian military", and therefore also sanctioned.
Moretti "has also used his UAE-based companies, Taerio Limited and Tamyna FZE, in his covert procurement schemes", which are also included in the sanctions as "the Malta-based company, Stratton Investment Group LTD, is owned by Taerio Limited.
