The Palestinian state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza is the guarantee of Israel's security
A Palestinian state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip would be Israel's best guarantee of security and peace, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.
He said the four-day ceasefire was an important first step in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, but much more was needed to find a way out of the crisis. Borrell said he regretted that Israel was not present at the UfM Forum in Barcelona on Monday. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyaz al-Maliki and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan will address the meeting as representatives of the Ministerial Group of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Borrell said he hoped the four-day ceasefire reached last week would last "a few more days". He urged Israel not to "re-colonize" Gaza, saying both Palestinians and Israelis have "equal and legal rights to the same land". A Palestinian state in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip was Israel's "best guarantee of security and peace," he added.
