Former French Ambassadors: Eliminating Hamas Is an Illusion
Former French ambassadors serving in various countries have expressed their concerns in an op-ed published in Le Monde newspaper. They caution against the completely unrealistic objective of the Israeli regime to annihilate Hamas. They point out that Hamas has already emerged victorious from five major campaigns and that a new war would only lead to its resurgence. These diplomats further emphasize the failure of Tel Aviv in the 33-day war. They draw a comparison between the goal of eliminating Hamas and the achievement of victory over Hezbollah, which they regard as both illusory. Ultimately, they put forth a political solution as an alternative for Israel instead of engaging in armed conflict in Gaza. According to them, the two-state solution, despite its shortcomings, is a more viable option than the brutal and ineffectual military conflict.
