The Parliament of Ukraine approves the plan to register prisoners in the army
The Parliament of Ukraine has passed a bill of law that allows for the collection and registration of the country's prisoners in the army.
The news website Russia Today has reported the news and added that the final draft of the bill was voted by a majority in the parliament yesterday Wednesday after being amended here and there.
The government of Kiev is in the process of recruiting soldiers, after the country lost hundreds of thousands of its soldiers in the war with Russia from 2022.
Last week, the Minister of Defense of Russia, Sergey Shoigu, said that Ukraine has lost almost half a million of its soldiers since February 2022 until now, and that this year alone, the country has lost 111,000 soldiers.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denis Malyuska, has been pushing for the registration of prisoners in the army, especially those who were found guilty of criminal offences.
He has said in an interview with a news organization that, "(Prisoners) who have committed murder in the past, can be good fighters in the battlefield."
Kiev has decided to create a special military force that will include released prisoners. The leaders of Ukraine emphasize that the country's army has suffered defeats in the battlefields by not being given sufficient military support by the United States and its allies.
