President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, who arrived in Uganda yesterday Monday for a two-day working visit, has continued his visit today, Tuesday. Ramaphosa has gone to Uganda at the official invitation of President Yoweri Museveni.

The purpose of Ramaphosa's visit is to strengthen the existing good relations between their two countries and to discuss security and regional stability, including the situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

South Africa is one of the fastest growing sources of foreign direct investment for Uganda and is also a destination for many Ugandan trained doctors.

In February last year, President Museveni visited South Africa in a trip that focused on investment and stability in the DRC.

During his visit, Museveni said that he will cooperate with South Africa to solve the security problem in eastern DRC involving the M23 rebels and those of Uganda Allied Democratic Forces or ADF.

President Museveni also said that President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo should not work with foreign powers targeting Western countries and their supporters, whom he called traitors. Museveni has also been opposing the deployment of United Nations troops in eastern DRC.

Last year, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (SAMIDRC), of which the DRC is a member, authorized the deployment of SADC troops to Congo to help Kinshasa stabilize and deal with the M23 rebel gang. .
