The President of Zimbabwe emphasizes reforms to increase efficiency in the public sector

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has emphasized that his government will continue to implement its reform policy to strengthen the efficiency of the public sector in the country.

Mnangagwa said this during the signing ceremony of the performance contracts for the financial year 2024 in front of government ministers, heads of public organizations, local governments and other senior leaders of his government.

He said: "The government will continue to play an important role in strengthening the implementation of the reform agenda in the public sector." 

He added by saying: "The government will continue with the reform agenda until our institutions, systems and processes of the public sector reach a high level of efficiency that is in line with the demands of service delivery and the expectations of the people."

He said, despite several government ministers and other senior leaders being given care due to their satisfactory performance last year, but the general performance in the public sector is not satisfactory and has not reached the levels he wants.

It should be noted that, Zimbabwe's Minister of Agriculture, Anxious Masuka was announced as the best performing government minister in 2023 for the second year in a row, while Amon Murwira, the country's Minister of Higher Education and Universities, Innovation, Science and Technology Development winning second place.

The southern African country of Zimbabwe is facing many social challenges including outbreaks of various diseases such as last year's cholera outbreak which killed tens of people and infected thousands of others.

Currently, the Harare government has come up with various strategies to deal with such challenges.
