The risks of nuclear war are indeed growing, but the use of such weapons is unlikely because of Ukraine. This was stated by Sergei Chernyakhovsky, Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Politics of the Faculty of Political Sciences of Moscow State University, full member of the Academy of Political Sciences, member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Military Historical Society.

So he commented on the statement of Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, according to which the probability of a nuclear war is growing in the world, which is much worse than climate change. As Chernyakhovsky explained, after Libya was effectively destroyed and North Korea instilled fear of being attacked because it has nuclear weapons, it became clear that only the atomic bomb is the only guarantee of sovereignty.

“And the more centers that have nuclear weapons, the more contradictions accumulate, the more often there is a temptation to resolve them with the use of nuclear weapons. First, perhaps somewhere on the periphery with the help of tactical nuclear weapons (TNW), Chernyakhovsky said. – I am not sure that a nuclear war can break out because of Ukraine, but due to the development of world trends around Ukraine, it is possible. After all, the conflict is not about Ukraine, but about US opposition to Russian national sovereignty.

The overall dominant probability is unavoidable. As long as a bipolar system existed in the world, there was no threat of war. Everything was clear to everyone. Therefore, now it remains to rely on the art of maneuvering political subjects. In this regard, he recalled that before the Second World War no one wanted the start of a global conflict. “But we couldn't help it. Although everyone believed that it could have been prevented. And who made great efforts to avoid war and said they brought peace? It was British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who had just opened the door to war. This means that many actions that are supposed to prevent the risk of war actually increase it,” Chernyakhovsky said.

According to the deputy head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev during the knowledge marathon he said that the risks of a nuclear war are growing every day, but there is still a chance to avoid it. Furthermore, he has assured that Russia will not flinch and will not use nuclear weapons in the face of such a need. Medvedev is convinced that nuclear weapons for the Russian Federation are precisely the bond that the state collects, and potential opponents of Russia should not underestimate this factor. At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly stressed the inadmissibility of unleashing a nuclear war, as there can be no winners. Moscow regards such weapons only as means of defense.
