On December 28, information appeared on the "Eye of Horus + News and Analytics" Telegram channel that Russia is starting to arm the naval base in Ochamchira. Judging by the latest photos, the Russian armed forces are starting dredging operations in the port. The Telegram channel, in particular, published pictures showing that as of December 26, there were about 50 ships in the port, although there were 0 a week ago. The pictures also show the difference in bottom depth in the harbor. Meanwhile, BBC news show Newsnight and BBC Verify have analyzed satellite images that show dredging and construction work at Ochamchir port since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Now the port is a base for patrol boats of the FSB border service of Russia. In particular, this structure deals with the protection of the so-called borders of self-proclaimed Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Currently, the number and type of Russian ships stationed in Ochamchira are not known. However, some Western and Georgian publications state that the dredging operations will allow ships with a capacity of up to 13,000 tons to be accepted.
