The Senegalese opposition leader is removed from the list of presidential candidates
The Constitutional Council of Senegal on Saturday published the final list of 20 candidates for the presidential election scheduled to be held in the country on February 25, which does not include the imprisoned opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, and Karim Wade, the son of the former president of the country, Abdoulaye Wade.
Those listed in the list of candidates for the presidency include Prime Minister Amadou Ba, appointed by President Macky Sall as his successor after Sall announced in July that he will not run for a third term. President Macky Sall of Senegal Others named in the list by the Constitutional Council of Senegal are former Prime Ministers and rivals Idrissa Seck and Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne, former Mayor of Dakar Khalifa Sal and Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye has been named as an alternative candidate for Sonko. 43-year-old Faye, a member of Sonko's disbanded party, is also in custody but has not yet been charged. Sonko, who came third in the 2019 presidential election in Senegal, has been in a major conflict with the government that has lasted for more than two years now.
