Tshisekedi was sworn in today, dozens of country leaders attended
The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, was sworn in this Saturday for a second term of five years after the Constitutional Court confirmed his victory in the general election last December.
His swearing-in ceremony has been held at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa. President Tshisekedi is expected to lead the nation for another term while some areas of the country, especially in the east of the country, are facing chaos, an issue that he has promised to end. 18 leaders from different countries arrived in Kinshasa earlier for the ceremony. The Independent National Electoral Commission of Congo DR (CENI) announced that Felix Tshisekedi won the presidential election by obtaining 73.47 percent of the vote, followed by Moïse Katumbi Chapwe, who obtained 18.08 percent of the vote. The third place was taken by Martin Madidi Fayulu who got 5.33 percent of the vote. Felix Tshisekedi The opposition camp and some civil organizations called for a repeat of the Congolese presidential election claiming that it was marred by serious logistical problems that questioned the legitimacy of its results. Tshisekedi came to power for the first time in January 2019, after defeating Joseph Kabila. Tshisekedi is the son of the opposition politician, Etienne Tshisekedi. Earlier, the leader had promised to improve the living conditions in the DRC, a country that is proud of mineral wealth but has a poor population of more than 100 million. He also promised to end the almost 25-year conflict in the east of the country.
