The situation in the Caucasus region remains unstable, the process of its regulation continues, the head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Andrei Serdyukov, stated during a press conference.
The demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and preparations for the signing of a peace treaty remain crucial.
"Tensions in the South Caucasus are being fueled by attempts by Western countries to consolidate their influence in the region," he said.
Serdyukov also noted that the North Atlantic Alliance is increasing military activity near the borders of Russia and Belarus, and is improving operational equipment in the region in order to reduce the time for regrouping NATO troops on the borders of the CSTO.
According to the official, the work of the joint headquarters and the CSTO, in general, last year was carried out in conditions of continuous intensification of instability and turbulence in global processes, as well as growing contradictions in global politics, which had a significant impact on the conflict potential.
