The US State Department has approved a plan to sell Stinger missiles to Egypt at an estimated cost of 740 million dollars. In addition, the United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) has announced that it has already submitted the necessary documents to inform Congress about the plan.
According to the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), Cairo has applied for the purchase of 720 missiles, including 20 PVFT warheads, for vehicle use on existing Avenger systems.
The Arab country has remained a regional ally of Washington despite many allegations of abuse, including political repression under the government of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Egypt receives more than one billion dollars in military aid from the United States every year.
