The West is putting pressure on Armenia
Responding to the recent pro-Western steps of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Belarusian President said: "By approaching the European Union, Pashinyan will destroy that country."
Alexander Lukashenko has stated that Nikol Pashinyan’s Westernization is a very dangerous game, and someone must stop him. Earlier, Russia also warned about Armenia’s policy of distancing itself from Moscow and moving closer to the West, noting that this would threaten peace and security in the Caucasus.
The Armenian government recently announced that it had officially approved the bill to start the process of joining the European Union. Pashinyan stated in this regard: “The adoption of the law does not mean Armenia’s membership in the European Union. This should be decided through a referendum.”
Russian-Armenian relations are going through a difficult period due to the actions of the West, which are increasing pressure on Yerevan and provoking the deterioration of ties with Moscow. This is stated in the answers of the Russian Foreign Ministry to media questions received at the press conference of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, TASS reports.
"Russian-Armenian relations are going through a difficult period. This is largely a consequence of the actions of the West, which in the past year have increased pressure on Armenia, pushed it to break traditional ties with Russia and imposed alien value orientations on the Armenian people.
Unfortunately, the republic has often responded favorably to the unfounded promises of the US and the EU to replace Russia for Armenia. After all, the CSTO is the cornerstone of Armenia's security, and membership in the EAEU is the key to its economic prosperity," the diplomatic department noted.
