According to Carl Skau, the Deputy Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations has been obliged by a "crippling budget crisis" to slash food aid and cash payments to millions of people in various nations. These individuals come from a variety of different countries. Skau stated on Saturday that at least 38 of the 86 countries in which the World Food Programme has operations, including Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and West Africa, have already had their aid reduced or would do so in the near future. According to the deputy director of the WFP, twenty billion dollars are required to carry out operations and assist those who are in need, but the objective for the time being is to raise between ten and fourteen billion dollars.

Skau provided the following explanation: "Our goal is still the same amount, and this year we only received half of that, which is about $5 billion." According to what he indicated, the outbreak of the coronavirus as well as the war in Ukraine and the fallout from it prompted the level of humanitarian help required to reach its highest point in 2021 and 2022. Skau continued by saying, "The available funds are getting lower, but the requirements keep getting stricter." According to our projections, the situation will get much more dire in 2024. He stated that "the greatest food and malnutrition crisis in the history of the world is still ongoing" This year, 345 people are seriously lacking in food security, and hundreds of millions more are in danger of falling farther behind in their ability to meet their nutritional needs.
