Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be sworn in today as head of state after winning a historic runoff to extend his 20-year power for another five years. The event in parliament will be followed by a ceremony at the presidential compound attended by 21 heads of state, 13 prime ministers, as well as parliamentary, ministerial and international organization representatives, including the Organization of Turkish States (OTS), NATO and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Erdogan will take the oath in the Grand National Assembly at 14:00 (13:00 in Italy) starting his new mandate. He will receive his mandate from the temporary president of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Devlet Bahceli. In last Sunday's run-off, May 28, Erdogan obtained 52.18 percent of the votes while his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu 47.82 percent. Late today the president is expected to unveil his new cabinet.
