Ugandan and DRC soldiers rescue another 23 people kidnapped by ADF rebels
The soldiers of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) managed to rescue 23 other people kidnapped by the rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in their joint military operation in the east of the DRC.
Major Bilal Katamba, the spokesperson of the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) Mountain Department has said that the army in collaboration with the DRC, have conducted a joint operation named "Hero," against ADF rebels near Malibongo River, north of Tokomeka in Ituri region, eastern DRC, and succeeded in freeing many other people who had been kidnapped by the rebels.
He said, the rescued hostages include 16 women and seven men, they have been received at the UPDF headquarters in Luna, Ituri Region, after being removed from the forest by joint forces on foot.
He also said: "Among those rescued are also 13 children including three infants under one year old who are severely malnourished."
The Ugandan military and their Congolese counterparts began a joint operation against the rebel group in November 2021, shortly after the ADF carried out bombings in Kampala, Uganda's capital.
ADF is a Ugandan rebel group that is based in the forests of eastern DRC. The rebel group is blamed for committing great atrocities and causing untold destruction in the villages of eastern DRC.
