Fatima Zurik, Head of the UNMAS Division of the United Nations, has said that more than 444 million square meters of land in Libya need to be removed from the remains of weapons and landmines, warning that the process of removing those bombs may take up to 15 years.
Tensions between various militia groups have littered many parts of Libya with landmines and remnants of weapons since the ouster of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
Those land bombs continue to kill innocent people in Libya.
The oil-rich country is divided into two parts. One part is led by the government of national reconciliation based in Tripoli, and the other in Benghazi.
