UN plea for $1.2 billion in Gaza aid
The United Nations Secretary-General announced: The United Nations is launching a $1.2 billion humanitarian appeal to help 2.7 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. According to United Nations, António Guterres said on Monday that Gaza was turning into a children's cemetery and said: “Gaza's nightmare is more than a humanitarian crisis. This is a crisis of humanity." He stressed: The escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip is shaking the world, the region is turbulent and, most tragically, the conflict is destroying many innocent lives. The United Nations Secretary-General said: “Israeli ground operations and continuous bombing are targeting civilians, hospitals, refugee camps, mosques, churches and UN sites, and no one is safe.” Guterres stressed: According to available data, more journalists have been killed in the last four weeks than in any conflict in the last three decades. He added: More UN aid workers have been killed than in any comparable period in our organization's history. Referring to the vital aid that flows into Gaza through the Rafah crossing, Guterres said: “A drop of aid will not meet the ocean of needs. The Rafah crossing alone does not have the capacity to process humanitarian aid trucks at the required volume.” The UN Secretary-General continued: More than 400 trucks have entered Gaza over the past two weeks. Before the conflict, 500 trucks entered Gaza daily. Most importantly, these grants are not fuel. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of martyrs of Gaza residents has reached more than 10 thousand people.
