The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued a plea for an end to indiscriminate killings of Palestinians, particularly young children, in the Gaza Strip by Israel.
Speaking to ABC News, UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram urged an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, cautioning against the detrimental effects of Israeli incursions in Gaza, including in the southern city of Rafah.
During her visit to Gaza, particularly in Rafah, Ingram witnessed harrowing scenes of children hospitalized without treatment due to the effects of the ongoing conflict.
Ingram recounted, "I saw a 9-year-old child who was hospitalized in critical condition, with one side of his body bearing wounds from a significant attack. (The child) said he had been in that state (of pain and suffering) for 16 days because Gaza's medical system cannot treat his injuries."
"We want to see an end to indiscriminate fighting and killings of civilians, especially children," added UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram in an interview with ABC.
Official news sources have reported that, on average, one child is killed or injured every 10 minutes in Israel's brutal attacks in the Gaza Strip.
According to UNICEF, nearly 15,000 Palestinian children are among the more than 35,000 people who have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
