UNRWA's Empty Warehouses: Hunger and Death Hiding in the Shadows of the People of Gaza

Several months after the Israeli regime banned UNRWA's activities in the Gaza Strip, the consequences of this inhumane act are becoming apparent on the mental and physical health of Palestinians, especially those suffering from specific illnesses.

In order to make Gaza uninhabitable and implement its plan to ethnically cleanse Palestinian lands, the Zionist regime has approved a plan to ban the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the occupied territories. As Russia Today reports, citing the TRT agency, Palestinian Mrs. Hanan Abu Said speaks of the dangers that this situation poses to her and her children's health. Mrs. Hanan notes that she has not been able to obtain blood pressure medication from the UNRWA medical center in the Nusirat camp in central Gaza.

Another Palestinian woman, Hoda al-Khattab, who suffers from heart problems, visited the UNRWA medical center after failing to find insulin for her son, who has diabetes, and is now worried about his deteriorating condition and being admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit.

This Palestinian mother said: "We found out that all the UNRWA centers are closed. We came here to get our prescription, but despite all this, we were unable to obtain the medicine. Israel has thus sentenced us to death. Wasn't the disaster that befell us enough? My son takes insulin and diabetes medication, I can't find insulin, if he doesn't take insulin, he will have to be hospitalized in the intensive care unit. My fate is also like this, because I also suffer from heart problems."

At the same time, given the empty warehouses of UNRWA flour and food supplies due to Israel's obstruction of aid deliveries to Gaza, there have been warnings of the possibility of a new wave of famine in the Gaza Strip.

The Zionist occupation regime's war against UNRWA is not a new issue and is part of Israel's long-standing efforts to stop the agency's activities in order to address the Palestinian refugee problem, especially at a time when the people of Gaza are in dire need of UNRWA's services, especially in light of the ongoing war in that territory.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has previously condemned Israel's move to ban UNRWA. He wrote on Twitter: "The truth is that there is no alternative to UNRWA in the Palestinian territories. The agency, established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly, provides emergency relief, education, and health and social services to at least 5.9 million Palestinians."
