Urso meets the US Commerce secretary: "Defend the strategic autonomy of the West"

Over a thousand guests attended the reception yesterday at the Italian Embassy in Washington, which was attended by the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and the US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, who had a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the event.

At the opening of the celebrations, Ambassador Zappia recalled the 1946 referendum with which Italian men and women chose the Republic and the values of democracy that we share with the United States, recalling the mention of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, yesterday, to the inspiration given by Gaetano Filangieri to the preamble to the US declaration of independence which reads "All men are created equal" and the phrase chosen by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to define our relationship with the US "an unbreakable alliance, a strategic partnership and a true and deep friendship”.

The ambassador highlighted that the celebrations in Washington were dedicated to Rome, enhancing the Italian candidacy to host Expo 2030 in the capital and the new direct connection between Rome and Washington by Ita Airways. Minister Urso highlighted the importance of the link between Italy and the United States, recalling his visits to Washington and his two recent missions to Kiev, testifying to our country's support for Ukraine. He underlined how his presence, alongside the secretary Raimondo, is motivated by the opportunity for the economies and businesses of Italy and the United States to grow together, enhancing the strength and reliability of Italy, a protagonist on the international scene also thanks to the professionalism , to the dedication and heroism of its Armed Forces.

He addressed the secretary Raimondo with a statement of gratitude from the government chaired by Giorgia Meloni, underlining the importance for our two countries to rely on each other in the current geopolitical context and in view of the Italian presidency of the G7 in 2024 In the face of the difficult economic and industrial challenges we are facing, he underlined, we must "create a single large commercial and productive basin that guarantees the strategic autonomy of the West and therefore the values of freedom, independence and well-being that underlie it ”, recalling the strong growth of the Italian economy, thanks also to the dynamism of our exports and in particular to the affirmation of Made in Italy in the USA.
