U.S. concerns about Russian-North Korean military cooperation
After Moscow and Pyongyang placed emphasis on expanding military cooperation, the US State Department expressed extreme concern about any agreement between North Korea and Russia on weapons. North Korea's increased military engagement with Russia and China comes as military tensions mount on the Korean Peninsula, with the United States recently invading the region with its nuclear submarine. North Korea's defense minister has warned that the dispatch of a nuclear submarine to the Korean Peninsula has created very dangerous conditions and is bringing the region closer to the brink of nuclear conflict. According to a French news agency, U.S. State Department spokesman Vedant Patel, expressing concern about the expansion of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, said: "Any cooperation between Russia and North Korea in the field of security or the signing of any agreement between them will undoubtedly be a violation of a number of resolutions United Nations Security Council".
This is not the first time in recent days and weeks that US officials have expressed concern about any increased cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Earlier, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, in response to military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, said that the United States would not hesitate to impose sanctions on North Korea and Russia if necessary. With the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Ukraine’s Western allies, especially the US and the UK, are working hard to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow and pump Kiev with all sorts of weapons to increase tensions and hostilities and try to isolate Russia in the international community. For this reason, Russia's rapprochement with countries such as Iran, China and North Korea has angered Western countries, especially the US.
