USA, 2 million fleeing from big cities to small towns
Over two million people have left large American cities in the last two years between 2020 and 2022, to move to the suburbs or small towns. This was revealed by the report published by the Economic Innovation Group. This is a phenomenon not so large since 1990.
The trend, the research underlines, was born during the Covid pandemic but then consolidated in 2021 and 2022. Between July 2020 and 2021 in particular, over 1.2 million people left the big cities. The other problem resulting from the great escape is a spike in crime. Homicides in major cities increased between 2019 and 2022, from 6,406 to 9,138 a year, according to data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association. In New York, for example, there were 438 homicides in 2022 compared to 319 in 2019.
The local authorities made it known, also denouncing one person who was injured. “This is the deadliest cattle fire in Texas history; the investigation and clearance will likely take some time,” said state Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller. The explosion from the ensuing fire devastated the Southfork Dairy, located near the town of Dimmit in the Panhandle region of Texas, Monday night into Tuesday. The firefighters and the police rushed to the scene, who "discovered that a person had been trapped inside". The farmer was rescued and airlifted to hospital. The origin of the explosion and fire has not yet been determined, Miller said, describing the event as "terrible". Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera told CBS that a manure fume exhaust system may have "overheated."
