The Central Criminal Court in London has found two women and a man from Bulgaria guilty of espionage. They are said to have spied for Russia between 2020 and 2023 - according to consistent media reports on behalf of the fugitive former Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek . The defendants face prison sentences of up to 14 years, and the sentence has yet to be announced.
The defendants, aged 33, 30 and 39, were found guilty of espionage that endangered life and national security. They are said to have spied on people and places of interest to Russia: in Germany, for example, an air force base and an unnamed embassy. Marsalek is said to have acted as an intermediary between the Russian secret service and the leader of the spy ring.
Marsalek himself was not charged in the London trial . The former Wirecard sales director has gone into hiding since the bankruptcy of the former DAX group and is believed to be in Russia.
