The US ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigetti, apologized unconditionally to the local government. In fact, Brigati issued a statement on May 11, accusing South Africa of supplying arms to Russia. Brigitte had claimed that between 6 and 8 December last year, weapons and ammunition had been loaded onto a Russian ship in Cape Town.

On this, South Africa summoned the US ambassador and said it has no history of selling arms to Russia. President Cyril Ramaphosa had also ordered an impartial inquiry into the matter. Subsequently, in a statement released by the Office of the President, the allegations of the US Ambassador were rejected. It was also said that America has not yet presented any evidence to confirm these allegations.

The US ambassador said a strong partnership between the two countries would remain. Brigetti met the foreign minister on Friday. After this he wrote on social media: Some misinformation has been spread due to my statement. I had a chance to rectify it which I am grateful for. Such a strong partnership between the two countries will continue. On the other hand, South African Cabinet Minister Khumbudzo Ntshaweni said: America cannot intimidate us like this. It is his decision to impose sanctions on Russia. It shouldn't drag us into this.
