We need workers with little hands
McDonald's is famous for its hamburgers, yet when seventy million customers bite into these sizzling burgers every day, they don't know that little hands probably prepare them. It has come to light lately that McDonald's branches in the US state of Kentucky hire minors.Among them are children as young as ten years old. Meanwhile, more than 350 minors have been hired to work in restaurants across four US states, with their daily work exceeding the maximum hours permitted by labour regulations. In these restaurants, underage workers serve food, sometimes as late as 2 a.m. They have job duties that are banned by law for people of this age. This comes as the United States moves to relax restrictions on child labour in order to allow more children to work for the minimum wage. According to the US Department of Labour, the number of minors working has surged by 70 per cent since 2018.The US Department of Labour has issued a warning that children's safety is put at grave risk by equipment used in the workplace. In June 2022, for instance, it was reported that a minor worker suffered serious injuries while using a fryer at a McDonald's branch in Tennessee.McDonald's, the largest fast food restaurant in the world, has over 40,000 branches throughout the globe, which means that probably more children are making burgers with their little hands.
