World Catholic Leader Reaffirms Need for Ceasefire in Gaza

The leader of the world's Catholics expressed great concern about the escalation of conflicts in the Gaza Strip and called for a ceasefire in the area.

After leading a prayer ceremony for the Assumption of Mary (peace be upon her), Pope Francis referred to various global conflicts, including Ukraine, West Asia, Sudan and Myanmar, and emphasized ending the violence, focusing on the crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, the genocidal regime of Israel, with the full support of the United States and some other Western countries, has launched a massacre in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank against the defenseless and oppressed people of Palestine, and the silence of the international community and human rights institutions regarding the crimes of the Israeli occupation regime has led to the continuation of the killing of Palestinian women and children by the military machine of the illegitimate Zionist regime.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 40,000 Palestinians have been martyred and at least 92,401 injured in attacks by the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip since October 7. Most of the martyrs and injured are women, children and middle-aged people.

More than 10,000 Palestinians are still buried under the rubble and should be added to the martyrs' ranks when the war is over.
