A famous Hollywood director's warning about America's dark future

American director Francis Ford Coppola said during the Cannes Film Festival. "America, whose founders tried to imitate the laws and government structures of the ancient Roman Republic, is headed for a similar collapse."

"What is happening in America, in our republic, in our democracy, is the same as the fate of ancient Rome, which lost its republic thousands of years ago. America's politics have brought us to the point where we may lose our republic," said Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola, who was at the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his latest film, Megalopolis, during a press conference on the sidelines of the event.

Megalopolis , which premiered Thursday night in Cannes, France, is inspired by Kathleen's plot to B.C. to overthrow the laws of the Roman Republic in 63 AD, and that the events of the film take place in the future in a metropolis like New York.
