A new type of military service will be formed in the Russian Armed Forces

In the third quarter of 2025, a new type of military force will be formed in the Russian Armed Forces - unmanned systems troops. This was announced by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov at an expanded meeting of the Defense Ministry's board. The minister emphasized that this is the instruction of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

Belousov also noted that the massive use of drones has become the most significant advancement in the tactics of the Russian troops. He set the Defense Ministry the task of increasing the range of drones, their autonomy, and their protection against failures.

"It is necessary to focus efforts on improving the tactical and technical characteristics of unmanned aerial vehicles in terms of increasing their range of use, autonomy, and protection from interference," he added. Belousov also stated the need to increase air defense capabilities to protect important facilities and settlements.

He drew attention to the fact that the adoption of by-laws to introduce a flexible mechanism in the state defense order has been delayed. "This will allow us to reduce the procurement period to one or two weeks instead of several months. I must note that the adoption of the by-laws arising from the presidential decree has been delayed, it is necessary to ensure their adoption by the end of the current year," Belousov said. Russian President Vladimir Putin has recalled that the country's Armed Forces receive several thousand drones per day. There were problems in this direction at the beginning of the special military operation.
